The New Addition

Earlier this summer, we adopted a black lab puppy from Potomac Lab Rescue in Northern Virginia. We’d been thinking about getting a dog for a while, but just never made the commitment. Then I saw a picture of this one and just couldn’t resist.

It’s been a fun summer getting to know him (and there have been a few trying days as well… I never knew dogs could eat windows!) and most of our activities these days have been very dog-centric.

Thank goodness there are so many dog lovers out there that it’s possible to take dog friendly vacations. We headed to Nags Head, North Carolina for a weekend of running on the beach, chasing sand crabs, and climbing sand dunes.

Nag’s Head has several dog friendly lodgings. We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Kill Devil Hills, which was located steps away from the ocean. Our window faced the open sea, and it was really quite nice to sit on our balcony with the pup and breathe the fresh ocean air.

Have you ever taken a vacation with your dog? How did it go? Any tips to share?

  1. Congratulations on getting a dog. I love dogs, but I haven’t had one since I was a kid. Now I own a cat. Not my choice since my wife owned her before we got married, but I’ve grown to love cats too.

I’ve never traveled with a dog before, but I think you can do it if they get used to it. I think some can do it better than others.

Thanks Steve! it felt like a big step! We also have a cat, so it’s been funny to see them get along… they actually don’t hate each other!
