We FINALLY made it to Barcelona!

I don’t know why it took this long to visit Spain. Well, yes I do.

Living in California for nine years and then in Japan for three years, Spain just felt soooo far away. But now that we’re in DC, Europe feels so close. Like Europe could be a weekend trip almost. Okay maybe not.

Anyway, this trip happened over the Christmas holiday, which is really my new favorite time of travel. I love seeing all the Christmas lights and shop window displays. Also there aren’t as many tourists as summer. Plus, it’s a nice Christmas gift that we give to ourselves. The only downsides are there tend to be lots of closures during holiday time and potential for bad weather.

In the case of Barcelona, I arrived on Dec 26 and everything was shut down tight. But the next day, things opened right back up and it wasn’t too cold overall.

So, what to say about the city of Barcelona?

The city was charming and very walkable. There is gorgeous public art everywhere. Spanish people are really good looking and they love their tapas!

I’ll get to the details and some impressions in coming posts, but here’s a round-up of some of my favorite Barcelona scenes in the meantime.

Patatas bravas- fried potatoes topped with aoli and spicy tomato sauce

I’ve only been back a few days, and I’m already I’m thinking about patatas bravas.

Have you ever been to Barcelona? What was your impression?

  1. Never been there, but I’ve always wanted to go…and this post makes me want to go even more. It just likes like a cool city with a good vibe. I love the places that you can just walk around. Maybe after my next trip I’ll go there. I’m also heading to Europe next in a couple of days…Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. Should be a good time.
